I see a few
sites getting on the title of the film for example Nuke The Fridge was complaining that even though
Jaden Smith is being taught Kung Fu the title remains "The Karate Kid" in what they claim is an effort to cash in on a popular 80's film by title
alone. I don't know if they realize but Kung fu is a broad term that is used to describe all martial arts of Chinese origin including Karate so the
title for this movie is totally appropriate.
That being said, the original Karate kid was special
because it spoke about a time many of you didn't realize. A time when being a bully was popular. Almost every other movie in the 80s was about some
teenage coming of age story and the Karate Kid brilliantly captured the feeling of an era. Can Harald Zwart understand that or is he just going to
direct some cookie cut story about a kid who just doesn't like where he is and wants to fight so he won't get picked on anymore. I hope not because
that's not what Kung Fu is about AT ALL.
Judging from Zwart's past he's not going to get it and we'll be left
bitching and moaning about another crappy remake. That's why film feels so dry these years, because these dumbass filmmakers don't know how to
capture the feelings of an era. Completely out of touch filmmakers
.
Here's a video montage of The Karate Kid coupled
with the theme song that perfectly fits.
After seen the trailer is like seen Karate kid 1 and 3 together and i think is kind of interesting, because is the kid going to another country to live, not to stay for a few days or weeks for vacations, its living there, learn, eat, its intercultural exchange experience (... more or less), Karate Kid beguns like this, but he moves to another city, not country and is a kid, not a teenager.
The part where Jackie says everything is kung fu its almost true, because in a grip, kung fu says step the feet of your foe if you can for release yourself; the rest of the arts say grab the arm or hit it, Kung fu is some times more simple. Ok it looks full of cliches in some moment but i think im gonna give it a chance... unless of course its sucks at the least, because of the cast envolve, their acting, the story is weak, the character development or who knows what else can they posibble make wrong. But so far is looks ok to me
Runa, If it can capture the feeling of the first movie for this generation then we\'ll have a hit. The first one was really campy and looking back had HORRIBLE Karate. I mean Daniel San sucked and he couldn\'t get it right after 3 movies ! which makes Mr. Miyagi a TERRIBLE teacher. But what it did do was speak to a generation of kids who were bullied and ignored. Look back at most 80\'s movies and they were all like this. So if they can do something like that then this movie will speak to the kids .Let\'s be real an old guy like me isn\'t going to get terribly excited for a movie like the karate kid unless they made it a hardcore MMA style story. This movie will be for families and will teach those lessons parents have a hard time with. we\'ll see, I\'m not so quick to hate it.
Hum~ the feeeling........ i thinks is gonna be imposible for this one to match the feeling of the first one, the reason?... i dont really know the answer for that... i think i need to buy the karate kid and see it again, im lost -|||-U.
But in this times, what is wich represents the most of the kids, young or people? for what i see, at least in my country, is about fit, what they want to do, the money, the study (many people makes a big fus about this one, again, in my country), the friends, the love, now days we have more things than in the 80 (some of them result of many things, including the goberment, society, money and even us).... hum~ this could be a good script... maybe some time im gonna write something and make it into an independent film... some one have the phone number of Michael Moore? i think this could be a good idea for him.
About hardcore, did you review Ninja Assasin? im still a little doubtfull if go to see it or save my money for another thing
To Eric :Karate doesnt actually teaches you to hit the arm ONLY. karate also tells you to step the feet of your opponent(\"not the exact wording but hopefully you know what i mean.)As for the Fury?: I can tell you dont do karate or you dont like karate, maybe if you DID do it , you didnt enjoy it. And MMA(mixed martial arts) is useless, They couldnt decide what to teach so they just took small peices from almost every other form of martial art and put it all together. thats how clueless the teaching is, MMA people CAN be arrogant over-confident people that, in a real life situation(ie. you get robbed) will do nothing because ..well they do MMA, they would be in effective in a fight on the streets
Did you just start this post with a line from Kung Fu Panda?
