Homophobia

Why are people homophobic? It's demeaning to homosexuals. It's like water and paper. They don't get along when they should.
It's also bad to be a stereotype. That's what gets people to be homophobic.I hate brining movies into something important but, a good example is Sacha Baron Cohen's Bruno character. I know it's a joke but, how is he going to prove a message about gay men not being a stereotype when he's a stereotype himself.
So overall, people who are homophobic need to grow up and start realizing who they are as people but, people shouldn't be a stereotype of a homosexual either for laughs because, it's not funny, or to get a point across because, it doesn't work. What do you think?

Well, I agree that there are many people with homophobic attitude, that's mainly because of stereotypes and Christian propaganda: " Homosexuality is wrong. God created the man and the woman for a reason..." and similar jibba jabba. I mean, look at the Westborough Baptist Church.
The fact that homosexuals are present in movies and books and so on is a good thing, they are not being ignored. Stereotypes are annoying, but there are also many subtle homo characters. It would have been worse if they wouldn't be in cinema/literature at all.
Even Harry Potter has a gay character - Dumbledore, but you don't see him dressed in pink and talking like a Bruno.
It's ok to be gay.
(Not that I am one. I'm just against homophobia)

The way I see it, let people do what comes natural to them so long as it doesn't hurt anybody else.
The only good reason anybody has to be homophobic or racist or anything like that in this day and age is religion (which is the fucking scum of the earth).
I've known people who are like "no I it's fine, I just hate the idea of what they do" - and what's harming you about what somebody does, in privacy, away form you?
To anybody who says "biologically it's supposed to go man + woman an that's it", biologically we're also not supposed to wear clothes, live in houses, use money, drive vehicles, watch TV, create TV, go to the supermarket, eat ready-processed meat which was hunted by others...
Nobody has the right to take away somebody's chance to be happy, if you're against gay marriage, don't marry somebody of your own sex. If you're against gay relationships, don't have a relationship with somebody of your own sex. What people do with their love and sex lives is none of anybody else's business whatsoever.

When I was younger, like around 13-14 years old I really hated Gay stuff. I was one of those meat heads tightening up my chest and yelling ," Yo man Don't play like that, I ain't no Faggot!" and then I got older and that immaturity washed away along with a lot of other things. My views started changing and I defined my own personality, not conforming to the personalities around me.
Religious people get it all wrong sometime. The bible teaches to hate what is bad and in the process they pick and choose what they want to follow in the Bible. Hate what is bad yet Jesus teaches to love thy neighbor. So people who don't really care to follow the bible simply pick and choose what they feel best compliments their own ignorant views and that is the worst of religion right there.
It's man who puts levels of wrong but the bible clearly teaches that practicing homosexuality and having sex before marriage is on the same boat, it's on the same boat as cheating on your taxes, adultery and even murder. It's all SIN. Yet some crackpot who is cheating on his wife will be the first to cast the stone like a hypocrite and hate gay people.
Me personally, I can't be around Flamboyant gay people who act ridiculous and want to convert everyone to try being gay. I don't put up with that and I don't put up with that simply because it's a behavior I abhor. Ask my wife I don't put up with any silly ass behavior whether it comes from a pack of college jocks asking girls to flash their titties or a buncha ghetto kids cursing up a storm in public around kids.
If a person acts like a normal human being I could totally have a beer with them and not even care if he's gay or not. But if that Guy is going to jump on the table and grind his crotch while dancing to "its raining men" then im outta here and ain't nobody gonna tell me I'm homophobic for leaving.
People have a God given right to choose how to live their lives. We don't have to accept the lifestyle but we have to respect the decisions people have made. That's the bottom line.

I'm okay with gay people around me (I have a few friends who are gay and/or bi). My friends all think gays are like people with Leprosy. They hate them because they are gay. In fact my shop has a gay kid in it and he's just fine, a little annoying at times, but he acts like a regular guy who just likes guys. It doesn't bother me and yes I am straight just because I have friends who are gay does not make me gay.

I am homophobic. I am not racist towards homosexuals, I just feel awkward around people like that. I do however believe in Gay Rights. It pisses me off when people don't get rights just because of their lifestyle. Taking rights away from people is my number one pet peeve and I hope that they are treated like normal people soon.

Damn right! That's what I've always said. Even if it makes you feel uncomfortable, how is it harming you in any way? It's people's right to do things their way, live the way they do and love the way they do.

I agree with this to a point. Though the behavior may not be harmful its annoying as hell. For example, I'm taking the train and I see a bunch of black kids acting ghetto, being loud and overall doing stupid silly stunts. Now they are not being violent (yet) but there's a way to act around people showing common decency and respect to your fellow man. You don't curse around people with kids, you don't yell like hoodrats. So I don't know what kind of phobia that would be called...ghettophobia maybe?
Same goes with someone who wants to act flamboyant and when I say flamboyant I'm talking about guys walkin' around with cut out ass chaps and disco dancing grind as you walk by going "don't knock it till you try it babyeeee" That kinda crap isn't gonna fly with me.

Homophobis is like racism to me, the kind of thing that, if I was pelted by gamma rays, would make me turn into you know what. The sheer intolreance and prejudice some people show just makes my blood boil.

New York voted NO to gay marriage and didn't even explain why. Stupid New York.
