Well, today I bought my first BD. It was a tight choice, between 300 and Gone with the Wind, but I wanted something with more effects and with sparta! Even though the video quality of 300 isn't superb, due to its grainy style, I was really impressed. I especially like the lack of the f-ing dvd menu...

So yeah, I've decided to quit gaming for a while and invest that money in Blu-Ray movies.  Cool

First of all, thank you to those who advised me to switch to BD. Second, I would really like to know what were your first opinions on Blu-Ray when you got your first movie(s). Wink

Nice to see you made the switch! Blu ray movies are great, but I think it just comes down to how much you like the movie. I sure know I am not gonna get some crappy movie on bluray, and just waste the $20-30, but I also know that if I ever hae to choose between a movie on dvd or blu-ray, blu-ray beets all.

I agree, but I didn't really see crappy movies ( like the ones you find for 2$ in a discount bin on DVD) on Blu Ray. Since my last message I've bought several new movies, including Erin Brockovich, Public Enemies and the Polar Express. All great Grin

For me, Blu-Ray depends on the movie. I love the clarity but while some (The Dark Knight, Watchmen, any animated movie) are stunning in how much sharper they look than a dvd, others just look like a slightly clearer version of the dvd. Some of them are noticeably clearer only if you just watched a dvd beforehand, others are instantly amazing.

Either way I've found most movies benefit from being on a Blu-Ray Disc. Silent Hill is a movie I love, but it's very grainy and foggy, so it doesn't have that "wow, this looks good" effect when you fire up the BD and yet it gives the movie so much texture, being able to see more detail in the monsters and sets brings the film to life in a strange kind of way. A non-film-fan would probably not be able to tell you the difference between the dvd and the BD of Silent Hill (aside from one or two wide shots) but they would say somehow they felt more immersed in the film.

Watchmen, however... Damn! It looks phenomenal, especially the Dr. Manhattan scenes. Looking forward to checking out the Transformers movies in this format too.
