*Just like on Ning*

A dark, gritty masterpeice of Asian cinema, "Gojira" is not the Godzilla of your childhood.  One of the greatest monster movies, antiwar movies, and my number one favorite of all time.  Featuring two fantastic movie characters in the form of the good Dr.'s; Yumane and Serizawa, as well as the title character, who would go on to become one of the most iconic movie monsters of all time.

Let's hear your thoughts.

Is this the original black and white film? I enjoyed it back when I saw it, yeah. Very dated, obviously, but I liked what they were going for with it. I liked the sequel I saw, too, in which they defeated Godzilla by firing at the icy mountains so that he got trapped underneath ice.

The 1998 American movie was alright, a bit "very big T-Rex stomping around" and a little bit over the top (they end up in his mouth, for Christ's sake!), but still fun.

I don't really like where it went after the original few Japanese movies, though. It was always Godzilla vs. this and that, and they even made it for kids for a while, with Godzilla and his frog-like son, sometimes they'd even speak.

I did like some of the monsters he'd go up against later on though, like Biollante, the huge Godzilla clone plant creature, like some kind of uber Audrey II, or the big 3 headed dragon creature (I forgot the name, sorry).

I really don't like the much later ones, Final Wars and all that, they were too Japanese, with all huge laser beams firing against each other and Linkin Park/Sum 41 type music and stuff, trying to be epic but only looking more like something a 14 year old has made for YouTube.

Yes, I refer to the original, black and white Godzilla, mind you, I also refer to the uncut, Japanese version, not the American version with Raymond Burr.

While the godzilla series never quite reached that height again, the Gamera films done in the 90's were spectacular.  Honestly, the best Kaiju movies outside of the original Gojira.  I highly, highly reccomend those.  Those films, in order, are:

Gamera: Gaurdian of the Universe
Gamera 2: Advent of Legion
Gamera 3: Revenge of Iris.
