Indiana Jones and the Topic of Classics!

I loved the first three films.  I can't say anything that hasn't already been said about them other than that they were great and I remember being amazed when I watched them as a kid.  These are very fun movies to watch and all of them are instant classics.  Yes, I even loved Temple of Doom.

But the fourth one was just lackluster and full of plot holes.  Still a fun movie to watch, but it didn't have the spark that the others did.  The action is alright but that's pretty much all I can say about it.

Raiders of the Lost Ark 10/10:This a  perfect action film that set the stage for all that followed. Very entertaining, exciting, and memorable. Saw this when I was 5, and it remains one my favorite movie of all time.

Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom 8/10:It has its positives and negatives, but overall this film was pretty entertaining. Not as good as Raiders, a dark film, but great cinematography and great visual effects.

Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade 8.5/10:An improvement on Temple, but still not quite as original or exciting as Raiders. Sean Connery's performance makes this a classic, though the film seems to try too hard to re-capture Raiders' magic.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull 5/10:It's Indiana Jones, but that's about it. A real disappointment, with lackluster acting and visuals. Personally, I though that 1981's Raiders had better technology than this one! What a shame.

If they do ever make a 5th one,they need to focus  more on Indiana Jones as the hero. Spielberg spent way too much time balancing between all the characters in Crystal Skull and that that took away from the excitement. I want to see more scenes of Indy being the hero, kicking butt, and taking matters into his own hands. That's largely what made Raiders so much fun.

  I'm a big fan of the three original movies, my favourite one being The Last Crusade (sorry, Ark, that's just my taste). They defined the adventure genre. I like Crystal Skull too, even though it has flaws. I consider it more of a...Indiana Jones reunion. It's a 3/5.

  Temple of Doom is considered to be the worst Indiana Jones, mainly because it's the not the classic Indy vs. Nazis/Reds, but I think the series needed a movie with a darker approach.

I was never a huge fan of Indie (I enjoy the films, I just don't consider them as classic as some people) but I can never see what people's problem with Kindgom of the Crystal Skull was. It had major realism problems, but so did the previous three, and any other problems I hear people complaining about in it were present in the classics.

I think people have just lost the ability to suspend their disbelief; people demand realism, have less of an imagination, and that's the beginning of the death of cinema (to quote Cinemassacre).

In an age where James Bond has been injected with hard-hitting drama and toned down the gadgets and "cliff hanging" moments, comic book films have are becoming dark and gritty and even the latest Harry Potter is a character drama, light on the magic, it's nice to see a movie which doesn't take itself overly seriously all throughout, like the new Indie, Die Hard 4, Wolverine, Fantastic 4, Transformers...

Like DistantJ, I enjoyed the first three but I never loved them, nor do I think that they are by any means classic. I can't explain why. I guess it's just because I grew up more with Star Wars and Back To The Future then Indiana Jones.

I've always enjoyed the first because my dad loves the Indiana Jones series and he use to watch it all the time when I was young and I enjoyed it a lot as well. I was never too fond with the other 3 though.

--Temple Of Doom was good but I found Indy's sidekicks (Short Round and Willie Scott) annoying. It had its moments, like the dinner when they first arrive at the palace. What I didnt know until recently is that its a prequel to Raiders Of The Lost Ark (i dont know if thats true or not)
--Last Crusade was great but it didnt have the action of the first one or the drama of the second one. It had more comedy with the interaction and chemistry beween Harrison Ford and Sean Connery. I still love this one.
--And finally...Crystal Skull, I like the return of Cate Blanchett as Marion and the add on of Shia LaBeouf as Mutt. It has some good action sequences like the car chase/race but the ending left us hanging and wanting more (and not in a good way exactly)

i love all of these films. i personally found short round to be the source of humor in the temple of doom.
