The Breakfast Club

In memory of John Hughes, I decided to put up arguably his best film in the Oldies But Goodies category. Everybody has seen this one and if you havent then you must be Patrick Star. It is The Breakfast Club

The film has seven key characters with Claire Standish (played by Molly Ringwald), Brian Johnson (played by Anthony Michael Hall), Allison Reynolds (played by Ally Sheedy), Andrew Clark (played by (Emilio Estévez), John Bender (played by Judd Nelson) and how could we forget Principal Vernon (played by Paul Gleason) and of course Carl the Janitor (played by John Kapelos)

This cult classic is filled with laughter, crying (I didnt cry but  I can see houw some people would) and is always entertaining. This is a movie that I could watch over and over again and never get tired of it. It may not be in my Top 10 but it definitely is one of my favorite movies of all time

Bah, I think The Breakfast Club is a horribly overrated movie. Empire Records is where it's at!

But ugh, The Breakfast Club disappointed me so bad. A bunch of kids have detention, and then they all end up crying about their oh-so-terrible lives ("People only like what's on the surface because I'm insanely attractive! Boo hoo!") like a bunch of fucking emos, then it ends!!!

 DistantJ, if you weren't my webmaster and overall awesome guy I would literally smash you for what you said about The Breakfast CLub!  The movie is brilliant!  It's so much more than just kids crying about their lot in life. Every single person could relate to one character or all of them in one way or another. It was a brutally honest approach into the lives of kids that many parents just ignore and neglect. Parents forget the enormous pressure kids are in when dealing with a school environment.
    All this was presented in such an innocent way. When you see these characters you quickly judge  them as anybody else would, the beauty queen, the jock, the renegade, the geek, the weird but possibly hot one if she just washed her hair, but as the movie progresses Hughes does incredible characterization by realistically having the kids reveal more and more about themselves. 
   When I go to the uk i will bring this movie and force you to watch this with me and together we will cry when Brian talks about suicide.

Yes but what happens in the film? People go to detention and cry. That's not enjoyment that's just depressing.

yes, it is depressing but in a completely refreshing way. it's liberating, these kids were hiding behind veneers, being what they thought they needed to be or what their parents needed to be and as the movie moved along they broke down, peeling those layers off and revealing the truth beneath it all and realizing they are all the same. As a teenager growing up that was a profound movie that's rare to see in a world that really just assumes kids are alright. Give the kids cgi ridden films, or fart jokes and they'll be ok. Send them to school and give them lunch money they'll be ok. But The Breakfast Club showed what teens are really like and it's a film that still stands till today with the kids and their stupid rap music and baggy pants all trying to talk the same going nigga this and nigga that. Show them Breakfast Club and they could still relate.

Yeah, I feel that, I felt that when I watched it. I just didn't feel that that was something I wanted to be watching.

I dunno, part of me hated it, part of me loved it. All the things you said there, I thought first time I saw the film, but at the same time, I'm not interested in paying to watch people sit around a room and cry, then go home.

I may have to watch it again as an adult.

i agree. this movie is excellent. it's kinda wrong to say something bad about this movie when the director just died.
